Sometimes when our Lord asks us to do some good work, all He really wants is our willingness to do the work, and not its accomplishment.

St. Jane de Chantal, 1634 (via shortbreadsh)

St. Catherine of Siena records our Lord as speaking to her thus: ‘I require of you that you love Me with that love wherewith I love you. This you cannot do to Me, because I have loved you without being loved…. You cannot then, render to Me the love that I require of you; and therefore I have set you in the midst of others, in order that you may do to them what you cannot to do Me; that is, love them freely and without reserve, and without expecting any return form it; and then I consider done to Me whatever you do to them.’

And yet today he’s one of the most fervent and learned Catholics you’ll ever meet. Read the rest… it’s fascinating.

Happy Ash Wednesday! This will be my first time as a Catholic celebrating Lent, and I’m so blessed to have this opportunity! Praying for all those participating in this season as well!
